At the
Easter Meet at Sawston in April 2010 we were visited by BBC
Four to
film three sets of dancers led by Home Counties
member Alison.
Two
video clips are available.
Photos are below,
with
commentary.
Apparently the film is likely to be included in a documentary
planned for June 2010.
Also at the Easter Meet, Home Counties members ran several workshops.
Photos and videos of the Border Morris workshop & Rapper
Sword workshop
are about two thirds of the way down this page - get scrolling!
Craft workshops are
a vital part of our Easter meet. There were LOADS of different craft
workshops.

If you have
more Easter photos you'd like to see included for other workshops
etc, please send them to webmaster@hcfdsg.org.uk
Video of setting up and the filming of dancing of " All the Way to
Galway"
Video of the Easter Bunny and the filming of the "Durham Reel" and
a medley dance of "Curly Headed Ploughboy, Portsmouth & Nottingham
Swing."
We met in the hall, and invaded Shirley's workshop while we waited for
Alison to tour the site with the camera man and sound man to identify
the filming locations.
The papparazi got started - many thanks to these and others for thier contributions
to this page.

Thankfully, it was a bright,
sunny day.
Let's not mention how cold or windy it
was.
First dance - on grass -
All the Way to Galway.
Lots of waiting.
Cameraman and sound man discuss next shot with Alison.
Alison instructs dancers.
Ready to go again...
Cameraman and sound man discuss next shot with Alison.
Alison instructs dancers.
Then another go...with the camera at a different angle.
Get the idea - dance, chat/wait
, dance, chat/wait,...
Somehow though, even the waiting was fun.
The cameraman seemed to
like close ups.
Tails and toes seemed to be favourites...
Particularly
nice pony tail Becky!
Speaking of
tails, some very peculiar footage was taken.
Wonder whether this shot will be on the TV?
Hope not!
The
cameraman seemed to like filming toes too and decided to kneel on the
grass to get a closer look.
Filming the footwork?
Is that why it's called "footage"?
Or was he praying?
Hazel filming the filming of the footwork.
At then
end of the "foot footage", the camera is switched off
and the cameraman starts to sit up again.
Just then, the Easter Bunny and Tom make a surprise appearance and the
cameraman doesn't even notice. Talk about missing the action!
After another quick chat with Alison, the cameraman takes a stroll up
the middle of the set while the dancers gazed into each others
eyes. Must
have been hard not to giggle.
Then it was Alan's turn to be the centre of attention - playing his smart
new piano accordion with a camera watching every blink was no problem
for him. What a professional.
Then it was
Easter picnic time. Blackcurrant squash and biscuits.
Mmmm. Thanks Bunny.
Wot - no Easter
eggs?
Then it was
time for a quick change of venue onto hardstanding - the school driveway.
Under Alison's
careful guidance the "youngsters" danced Durham Reel.
Double cast. Camera on shoulder looking at heads and shoulders - just
when we were all doing the difficult rant step in perfect time.
.
Thread the needle. In case of emergency, Alison points out the emergency
exits...
Round in a circle with Geoff pretending to be a red and black tree....
Oh no, what's the cameraman filming now.
Toes? Or tails again?...
No it seems to be knees he's filming.
Great, that completes the set - heads, shoulders, knees and toes
- isn't that a song?
Just like the Duracell Bunny, Alan's accordion keeps going and going.
The end. A final "honour you partners" and we all went
home. Well, back
to our caravans and motorhomes.
Border
Morris Workshop and Rapper Sword Workshop
VIDEO LINKS for the Border Morris Workshop and the
Rapper Sword Workshop at the Easter 2010 Meet as Sawston are to the right.
There
are photos of the Rapper
workshop and Border workshop photos are below.

the dance Go Mauve as taught in in two hours of the
Border Morris workshop.
Video of
the Rapper Sword sequence learned in two hours on Easter Monday.
For both the border morris
and rapper sword workshops we were in a Food Technology classroom with
interesting words on the wall
that
described
food. We
had great fun trying to use as many of the words to describe our dancing
- sweet, crunchy, crumbly, claggy and effervescent to name but a few.
Alan led the music, with Hazel and Thierry joining in when the workshop participants
were well behaved and getting it right.
Border
Morris Workshop
Thierry and
Hazel taught the Lumbawakk dance called GoMauve to three sets of six
dancers.
Eric and Sandra, Derek and Judy, Sid and Lynda had fun with little argument
for a change!
Thierry leading the sticking move...in one of the few quiet, calm and heckle
free moments. The photo also shows a few of the various ways people wore the
compulsory "lanyard and identification badge" throughout the meet.
Here you can see the popular "Round the Neck" version, the "Round
the waist with tag to the side" version and Karen's way which defies polite
description....Hmmm....
Matt and Phil, Marianne and Tosh, Peter and Edinburgh Dave danced together.
Five of them were honoured to have a real live Witchman in their set ...
Karen and Hollie, Ann and John, Melissa and Margaret heckled and caused
chaos throughout the entire workshop.
Well, one of them did ...name no names!
